The initial measurement at the school showed a flow of around 16 litres a minute — with no restrictor of any kind. That is roughly four times what a basin needs. After fitting, water use fell by 27.58 %, the highest percentage in our portfolio.

Why a school in particular: the tap is held open by someone who does not pay for the water and has no reason to watch it. The higher the starting flow and the shorter each individual use, the greater the share of water that runs away unused — and the greater the room to save.

Water saved versus money saved

The school has the highest percentage saving in the whole pilot, but not the highest amount: ≈ 4 490 € (110,030 CZK) a year against a contract value of ≈ 6 050 € (148,304 CZK). A school heats a smaller share of the water it draws than a residential facility does — heat here fell by 13.89 %, whereas in the care home it fell by 26.37 %.

The practical consequence for whoever runs the buildings: the percentage saving on water lets you estimate the technical potential, but not the payback. That is set by the combination of the price of water, the share of hot water and the starting flow — and it differs from building to building even within one city.
